(PNTU)-On June 1st, 2021, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thanh Hiep, MD, PhD – Executive Vice-Rector of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine visited and encouraged volunteers at the isolation ward of District 8 – Medical Center of District 8. After the visit, PNTU organized an online meeting with students who are supporting at the other quarantine points.

Following the request of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine has mobilized 230 students to participate in supporting the anti-epidemic work in the city. On the evening of May 29th, the PNTU’s volunteer team was dispatched to many districts and isolated locations. They supported the locality in taking samples for testing and inputting data. Recognizing the volunteer's efforts and the willingness, Assoc. Prof. Thanh Hiep directly visited and encouraged the volunteers who were supporting at the quarantine points.
After updating the volunteer's informations and visiting the Medical Center of District 8, Assoc. Prof. Thanh Hiep felt very proud of the students of PNTU in particular and all medical students in general who are participating in the fight against epidemics. Assoc. Prof. Thanh Hiep said: “With youth, you have ready yourself to go to the front against the epidemic and share the burden with medical staffs. Although you have encountered some difficulties during support, but did not give up because of that. This is an opportunity for medical students to practice in the real world, facing great pressure and high levels of danger. From here, you will be more mature and aware of your responsibilities to society."

In order to comply with the regulations of distancing and limiting travel but still be informed of students’ informations and support them in time, PNTU has organized an online exchange with students participating in the fight against the epidemic at various locations. After listening to volunteers' sharing, The Board of Directors implemented plans to support such as transportation for students who are far away, protective tools and timely relay necessities in order to reassure students so that they can complete their tasks. In addition, volunteers will become the first priority of PNTU when deploying Covid-19 vaccination.

At the exchange, Ms. Phan Nguyen Thanh Van, MD, PhD – Vice-Rector shared and encouraged the students: “The school will be a solid rear for you, but there will be difficulties you have to face and find ways to solve by yourself. You must make sure to follow the correct procedure, protect yourself against possible risks. This is your chance to experience reality and challenge yourself. We hope you can take advantage of this opportunity and make your first impressions on your chosen healthcare career.”

Assoc. Prof. Thanh Hiep also gave gifts to volunteers including essential items and protective equipments when participating in the work. Through the school, sponsors such as OPODIS Pharmaceutical - Pharmaceutical Co.Ltd. and Hiep Bach Nien Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company donated health care products such as Clincare hand sanitizer, mouthwash – OPFLU and Bavemux nasal spray solution as a gratefulness and hoped that volunteers have the strength and health to complete tasks.

Currently, there are 103 students on the front lines, joining the team of the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) to take samples for Covid-19 test, fill out ballots in residential areas. There are 17 students work at HCDC to assist with coordination, logistics, reporting and preparation of Covid-19 vaccination work.
